Collaborating with others on a survey

Work with colleagues on the same survey using Inbox to discuss changes, follow tester feedback and resolve issues before fielding. Survey activity records saved changes and provides review and undo actions where available.

Find conversations in the Inbox

Open a survey and select Inbox. Choose a view:

ViewWhat it shows
InboxAll open conversations for the survey.
UnreadOpen conversations with messages you have not read.
BlockersOpen blocking conversations that need attention before fielding.
ArchivedConversations removed from the open inbox after resolution.

The Inbox lists tester feedback alongside system review items. The warning symbol identifies a blocking conversation; the dot marks an unread item.

Search by words in a title or message to find a discussion. Unread state is personal: a teammate reading a conversation does not mark it read for you. Assignment identifies an owner; it does not make the discussion private. People with the required survey permissions can see the conversations.

Start a discussion and assign an owner

  1. In the Inbox, enter the issue or question in Start a new thread….
  2. Enable Blocking if the issue must be resolved before fielding.
  3. Select Start thread.
  4. Open the conversation and use Assign to choose a member of the survey's account. Clear the assignment when no individual owner is needed.
  5. Reply in the conversation to keep the decision and its context together.

New conversation titles are generated from their messages and may update after posting. System conversations and Survey activity keep their fixed titles. Typing an @name in a message is ordinary text; it does not assign work or send a mention notification. Use Assign to set the owner.

Resolve blockers and archive conversations

Open blocking conversations prevent fielding. Fix the underlying issue, re-test the affected behavior and record the outcome in the discussion. Use Archive when the conversation is resolved.

Archiving preserves the discussion in Archived; it does not delete its messages. Use Reopen conversation to bring it back. Replying to an archived conversation also reopens it and retains its priority, so a reopened blocker needs attention again.

Follow feedback from survey testing

A reviewer can select Comment while a question is on screen in a test survey. Feedback about the same current question is grouped into one conversation, with a link to that question. See Testing and Reviewing Your Survey for test links and controls.

Question links follow the original question reference through edits. If a question is deleted or cannot be matched safely, its discussion remains available with the original feedback but loses its current question link. It does not attach to a replacement question simply because that question occupies the same place in the code.

Review saved changes in Survey activity

Open Survey activity in the Inbox to see survey updates, who made them and when. Updates and their descriptions may take a moment to appear after saving. Select Review change on a saved change to see which settings changed and whether you can undo it.

Expanded Survey activity entry showing a saved weighting-strategy change and the Undo this change action

This expanded entry identifies Weighting strategy as the change available to undo.

To undo a saved change:

  1. Open its Review change details.
  2. Check the listed changes and any conflicts with edits made later.
  3. When available, select Undo this change, review the confirmation and confirm. Compatible later edits are preserved.
  4. Re-test the survey after the undo.

If the change cannot be undone safely, inspect the conflicts. Replace current survey configuration is shown only when a full replacement is available. It can discard later edits, including otherwise compatible changes. Review the affected settings before confirming Replace configuration. If someone saves another change while you are reviewing, check the updated preview before trying again.

Some activity entries describe actions that cannot be undone here. Copying a survey starts fresh conversations and activity; it does not copy the original survey's discussions.

Ask Chat to help with feedback

With the survey open, ask Chat to list blockers, summarize unread conversations or read a specific conversation by title or ID. Selecting a thread in the Inbox does not automatically pass it to Chat.

Chat can propose survey-code changes for you to review, apply and save. Return to the conversation to record the outcome and archive it after re-testing.
