What the research changed
The first studies were exploratory: how people think about the category, how they feel about installation and measurement, and how common the pain actually is. The answer was both confirming and surprising. In Mado Dynamic's surveys, 59% of people fear damaging their walls, and measuring the window is a big enough problem that many won't buy a shade themselves at all.
That finding reshaped the messaging. The team then ran a second round of tests to see how the new messaging moved purchase intent and understanding of the product. The final round was headline testing for retail: when someone walks past the product on a shelf, which line makes them understand what it is and why it matters to them?
Each round informed the next. Because every test came back in two days rather than two months, the whole sequence of six studies fit inside the window a single agency project used to take.
