What Happened to Confirmit and Decipher? The Forsta and Qualtrics Timeline

Confirmit, FocusVision, and Decipher are now part of Qualtrics following its acquisition of Press Ganey Forsta in May 2026. The names refer to different companies and products brought together through successive mergers and acquisitions.

This timeline explains how those businesses came together and the questions to ask your vendor about your current research platform.

The short answer

Confirmit and FocusVision merged in 2021 and renamed themselves Forsta. Press Ganey acquired Forsta in 2022. Qualtrics agreed to acquire Press Ganey Forsta in October 2025 for $6.75 billion and closed the deal in May 2026. Every brand in that lineage — Confirmit, FocusVision, Decipher, and Forsta itself — now sits inside Qualtrics.

The full timeline

Decipher: the survey programmers' platform. Decipher was founded in Fresno, California by Jamin Brazil and Jayme Plunkett as a survey programming and reporting business for quantitative research teams.

January 2015: FocusVision acquires Decipher. FocusVision, then known primarily for its qualitative research technology, acquired Decipher to expand its quantitative research tools. Decipher's platform continued under the FocusVision umbrella, and for many agencies "Decipher" remained the everyday name for the tool regardless of the logo on the invoice.

January 2021: Confirmit and FocusVision announce their merger. Confirmit — the survey-platform company whose roots go back to 1990s Oslo — and FocusVision announced their merger on January 8, 2021. That April, the combined company relaunched under a new name: Forsta. Decipher continued as a survey product under the Forsta brand.

April 2022: Press Ganey acquires Forsta. Press Ganey, the healthcare-experience measurement company, completed its acquisition of Forsta on April 26, 2022. Forsta continued to operate as a standalone brand with its leadership intact.

October 2025 – May 2026: Qualtrics. Qualtrics agreed to acquire Press Ganey Forsta for $6.75 billion in October 2025, and closed the acquisition in May 2026.

What this means if you run studies on these platforms

Ownership history alone does not establish how a product will change. For current studies and future contracts, ask your vendor about the plans and commitments that affect your work.

The successive mergers and acquisitions make these useful topics for your next vendor review:

  • Roadmap. Which features and integrations are planned for the product you use, and on what timeline?
  • Pricing. What are the renewal terms, usage allowances, and service costs for your expected research volume?
  • Support and continuity. Who supports your team, and what commitments cover urgent fieldwork issues and continued access to existing data?

Knowing your options

If you are considering a platform change, compare it against a representative study from your current workflow. Include programming, review time, sample, data processing, and reporting in the comparison.

We've written about what those options look like for Forsta users, and if you want the practical version — how survey programming, QA, fielding, and reporting work on MX8 Labs, and how to evaluate alongside your existing process — that's covered on our guide to switching from Decipher.

Use the evaluation to check whether the alternative meets your study requirements before moving live work or historical trackers.
